Interview with Boys Republic

We had an opportunity to interview Boys Republic right before their show in Kraków.
If you’re interested in what we talked about, please read on!

AMP: You’ve already visited a few European countries during this tour. Which one did you like the most?

Onejunn: The country we liked the most… Hmm… We liked all of them. Germany is very vivid in my memory; we’ve been there until yesterday. We had a day off so we had a chance to look around the city. We went sightseeing and visited places like the cathedral, so that country left a strong impression on me. But I think that since we’re in Poland now, we will probably check out the city after our show, it seems that it will be also stuck in our memory (laughs)

AMP: What differences between European and Korean fans have you noticed?

Minsu: Fans in Korea and abroad are mostly the same, but if I had to find a difference… Fans in Korea take a lot of pictures and videos and the fans abroad usually just dance together and enjoy the show.

AMP: You travel a lot. How do you regain your energy? How do you relax?

Sunjgun: Before the concert in Paris we had two days off. When a situation like this occurs, we usually just sleep and eat a lot. Recently we spend a lot of time in the car and we eat a lot of Korean food. That lets us regain our energy.

AMP: Do you still get stressed before your performances?

Sunwoo: Before a performance we only think about the fans that we’re going to meet in a moment so we’re more excited than stressed.

AMP: Is there a song without a music video for which you would like to shoot one?

Suwoong: There’s that song that Onejunn composed, it’s called “Somnambulance”. I wish it had a music video, because I’m curious how it would turn out. (Onejunn reaches out for a handshake) (laughs)

AMP: You do spend a lot of time together. Do you ever get sick of each other?

Sunwoo: That’s true, we’re stuck together most of the time, so obviously it becomes annoying sometimes. But each time that happens, we get stronger.

AMP: Whose personality changes the most when on stage and off stage?

Suwoong: When we’re on the stage we try to show our fans our best side, but when we get off, we’re the same as all other people our age. I guess I can say that each of us changes the same amount.

AMP: Onejunn, what do you have to do as the leader and is it a lot of work?

Onejunn: Before our debut I thought that it will be really tough, because there’s that age gap between me and the other members. I was afraid that we won’t get along; I thought that they won’t listen to me. But now that we got to know one another, we tend to think very alike. We understand each other so there’s nothing difficult in being the leader anymore.

AMP: Do you have any strange habits?

Boys Republic: Habits…?

AMP: None?

(everybody laughs)
Onejunn: I’m not sure if this is a habit, but sometimes Minsu hits and kicks if someone is sleeping next to him. That is his sleeping habit.

AMP: In the music video for “Hello” we could get a glimpse of your acting skills. We know that Sunwoo can break out in tears in 30 seconds. Would you like to start acting?

Sunwoo: I had a chance to learn acting for a short time, so if there is a chance, I’d like to act in a drama or a movie.

AMP: What kind of role would it be then?

Sunwoo: Because my image is rather gentle, I’d like to try something opposite.

AMP: Are there any dance styles you’d like to learn?

Sungjun: I wanted to learn popping for some time already, I’m also interested in locking, house… I’d like to learn many different styles. I learned them a bit, but not long enough…

Minsu: I tried b-boying recently, but only for a short time, so I’d like to dedicate some more time to it.

AMP: What is the hardest thing in being a k-pop idol?

Suwoong: The hardest thing is that we can’t do a lot of things that other people our age do, like going out with friends and having fun out in the city…

AMP: What are your current plans and goals?

Onejunn: First of all we’d like to gain more recognition amongst the Korean and European k-pop fans, present ourselves to a broader audience. Currently the most important goal for us as Boys Republic is getting a no.1 in Korea, after we achieve that we’d like to have a world tour to spend some nice time together with our foreign fans.

AMP: We hope that you’ll be able to achieve all your goals and we wish you a great concert today! Thank you for the interview!

Boys Republic: Thank you!

A big thank you to B7Klan and Boys Republic’s management for the interview opportunity.
